Men’s Mental Health Fundraising

Men’s Mental Health Fundraising

Help us continue our essential work tackling male suicide. The more we raise, the faster we can develop and share our suicide intervention tools with people at risk. We appreciate your help in supporting such an important cause.

Mental health fundraising is vital as these issues affect so many. Your donation will go towards developing tools that will save lives.

We use the Local Giving platform where our suicide prevention fundraisers can set up their own page for their fundraising event. Once set up, it can be shared with supporters so they can make donations.

What is Men’s Minds Matter’s Purpose?

Men’s Minds Matter has been raising awareness about male suicide, providing resources and support for over a decade.

Our first campaign, produced by Media Bounty and supported by Clear Channel, reached over 5 million people in the past year alone. It also won a Drum Award
Our work, alongside other individuals and organisations, has brought male suicide (and suicide more generally) into focus and helped get the male gender recognised as an at-risk group in the National Suicide Prevention Strategy

In 2016, we shifted our focus to developing psychological interventions for people at risk of suicide. In 2021, we launched the Men’s Minds Matter Model of Psychological Entrapment and Suicidal Crisis (PESC-M). This is used to train clinicians, giving them a framework to assess and formulate interventions for people who are actively suicidal.

This is the only model of its kind which captures the suicidal experience in its entirety. It’s already saving lives in the therapy room, but we know we’re just getting started. The model defines the psychological mechanisms that lead to and maintain suicidal thoughts, planning and intentions to act. It’s like a map which can be used to help people find a way out of psychological entrapment and suicidal crisis.

Our aim is to reach as many people as possible with our intervention through our digital platforms, training and direct support. We use the money from fundraisers like you for this. Without you, we wouldn’t be able to continue with this work.

We use the Local Giving platform where our fundraisers for male suicide can set up their own page for their fundraising event. Once set up, you can then direct your supporters to your page so they can make a donation.

Thank You to Our Suicide Prevention Fundraisers

A huge thank you for supporting our work. It means so much to us. Without our fundraisers, we wouldn’t be able to continue.

If you’re planning a fundraising event, our Local Giving platform is easy to use. Please consider using this to let people know about your event. You can create your own event, make a one-off donation or if you can, arrange an amount to donate on a monthly basis.

If the platform isn’t suitable for your fundraiser, please send us an email and we can talk through other options.

Although the money raised is very important to us, each fundraising event also helps raise awareness of our work. This generates more support in the future, helps to grow our community, and puts mental health in the spotlight as a cause really worth people’s attention.

If you post about your fundraising event on any social platforms, please tag us if you are happy for us to share.  We love spreading the word about your mental health fundraising efforts. Fundraising to prevent male suicide helps save lives, and that is worth sharing!

Where Does Your Mental Health Fundraising Money Go?

We want to make our intervention tools freely available to people who are suicidal.

We use all the money raised by our fundraisers to develop our intervention tools. Although we are currently supported by volunteers, we do need to bring in specialist skills and knowledge to achieve our ambitions and progress our projects. Below are some examples of how we make use of the money we raise and the estimated costs that we would need to raise to make them a reality.

£15

Covers Room Hire Costs for Our Clinicians

Our clinicians need space to work from. Our current room space is provided free by The Couch. However, to be able to offer more sessions, we need spaces to work from.

£15 –
£30

Could Cover One Day’s Administration Costs

There is so much day-to-day administration which needs to be done to stay on top of things. Having support with this allows us to focus on developing our interventions. This is a standard hourly rate.

£50 –
£250

Could Pay Design Costs for Print Material

We make a little go a long way. The current cost to take the print material and produce a booklet designed for print is between £50 – £100 which is great value. We have a number of booklets available for people in crisis and those who support them. We have more to come too.

£100 –
£5000

Could Cover Costs for Video Editing

We are always open to doing things using minimal resources and like to get the best value from the money we spend. We are able to film content ourselves which we use across our platforms. Professional editing for this content would typically cost within this range.

£350

Covers the Cost of Running Our Training to the General Public on How to Support Someone Who Is Suicidal

These 90 minute training sessions help people become more confident and able to support people in a suicidal crisis.

£500 –
£15000

Could Allow Us to Build a Component of Our Web Application for People Experiencing a Suicidal Crisis

We have started to build our web application. Rather than hang around we plan to do this incrementally and have our strategy laid out. We know we can launch aspects as we go along that will be of help. By doing so, we can get life-saving support to people in need. A donation of this size enables us to develop an evidence-based practice component of our suicide intervention app.

£1000 –
£15000

Video Production Costs

We have a range of videos that we need to produce that offer psycho-educational material. We’ve had a breakdown of estimated costs and what we need for each video is in this range.

£2000 –
£5000

Cost Per Face-to-Face Suicide Intervention

We have a limited capacity to offer face-to-face interventions. We currently offer this where possible on a pay-what-you-can, if-you-can, when-you-can basis. Essentially, it’s free to those who need it but people can also give back if they would like to.

£600 000

Ideal Running Costs Per Year for the Next 3 Years

This amount over the next three years would allow us to really step things up and bring in the staff needed to drive MMM forward. We need approximately £200,000 per year to operate, and continue to help men and boys stay alive.

This would allow us to grow and provide our resources, help, and support to more people in need.

£150 000 –
£200 000

This Builds Our Web App Suicide Intervention

This is the big-ticket option. We want to make our self-help app as soon as we can. A donation of this size would make the first version and keep it live for 3 years. We’re working towards it already. However, if you can help us get it done sooner, then why not go large?
